ARTHUR REGINALD @ ABDUL RAHMAN PFORDTEN

ARTHUR REGINALD @ ABDUL RAHMAN PFORDTEN was born on November 23rd, 1886 in Batavia, Java. The family returned to stay in England. As a teenager, he was sent to study in Germany, where he went to an English College. Then they moved to stay in various places because his father, FREDERICK GEORGE von der PFORDTEN had to run his Cable Company. They made their last stop in Singapore. Business in cable ended when telephone took the forefront in telecommunication. This prompted him to find jobs in other sectors. He joined the rubber industry as a planter. Soon he was made a manager and it took him places. It was in 1937 that he converted to Muslim. Soon after he married Jamaliah bt Puteh in Penang. He was 51 years old then while Jamaliah was 29. They have five children by the marriage:

1. AHMAD PFORDTEN
2. ABDUL RAHIM PFORDTEN
3. MOHAMED SALEH PFORDTEN
4. FATIMAH PFORDTEN
5. OTHMAN PFORTEN

During the Second World War, Arthur Reginald was taken prisoner-of-war and was intern at Changi Prison from early 1942 till the war ended 1945. After the war, he returned to Penang to bring the family to Cameron Highlands. He passed away on December 13th, 1974 and was buried in Cameron Highlands.
